Education: 2 years (64 credit hours) undergraduate studies at the University of
Nebraska-Lincoln and was then accepted into UNL-College of Dentistry (now
UNMC Department of Dentistry); graduated with DDS degree in 1977.
University of Iowa College of Dentistry; graduated with an MS from the
Graduate
College and a Certificate in Orthodontics from the
College of
Dentistry. Of Note: I am one of the few people in the world that has an MS
degree from a Graduate College without a Bachelor of Science or Arts degree
– a little thing they overlooked at UI until I was already doing my oral
defense of my thesis.
Honors: DDS was conferred with High Distinction, Omicron Kappa Upsilon,
Delegate to the American Student Dental Association Conference on Dental
Research.
Practice
History. I began
practicing with Doctor's Park Dental Associates, Madison, WI in June 1979 as the
staff orthodontist of this multi-specialty group.
I started up
satellite practices in DeForest, WI in December 1979 and in Sun Prairie, WI
in May 1980.
Doctor's Park Dental
Associates ultimately split into two groups. The Center for Cosmetic
Dentistry continued at the original location. Madison Family Dental
Associates was founded by two general dentists and I in January 1983.
Completely renovated an existing two level office building, adding an
elevator and enhanced parking and with that became the largest single dental
facility in Dane County. We were the sole provider for Compcare, Dentacare and Physician's
Plus orthodontic services in Dane
County (One of my partners and I personally wrote the first contract for orthodontic services for
the State of Wisconsin with
Physician's Plus).
I disassociated from
Madison Family Dental Associates to begin private practice in April 1988.
The Sun Prairie
practice was relocated to a new office in the Cornerstone
Building at the Sun Prairie
Business Park in February
1996.
Three family practice
dentists and I combined resources to build a new condominium office building
in Middleton, WI - Stonefield Dental Centre. My west Madison practice and a
two-day-per-month practice in Spring Green were relocated to this location
in May 1999.
The Sun Prairie
office was remodeled in March 2005 to better accommodate our increasing
patient volume.
My practice was
acquired by American Dental Partners, Inc. and Deerwood Orthodontics, LLC on
December 1, 2006. Along with the purchase, a work agreement was instituted
to provide transition of patients for a 2 year term with a negotiable third
year which has not been found to be necessary.
Teaching
experience: Served for 2
years on the the staff of the Max W. Pohle Dental Clinic at the hospital
(was Methodist now Meriter). Provided orthodontic consultation and minor
treatments to low income patients pro-bono while teaching diagnosis and
minor treatment planning to the general practice residents.
Professional
Affiliations: ADA,
AzDA, CADA,
Chicago Dental Society.
Volunteer or
community service work. We
have a daughter, Lindsay, that was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at 9
months of age. My wife, Barb, and I established the Madison Chapter of the
CFF. We helped organize a local “Great Strides Walk for CF” and the “CF
SKINS Golf Challenge” in Madison which continue today. Our events gained
momentum and brought about the establishment of a permanent CFF Madison
Office with full staffing that raises over $300k every year through these
and other events. The CFF recently had a Gala Dinner in our honor at the
Monona Terrace Convention Center (A
Frank Lloyd Wright design) in Madison. No thanks were necessary, of course,
our motivation was quite clear.
Personal
information: Wife, Barbara
(Barb) is a retired educator from the Madison
Metropolitan School
District. Son, Jason lives and works in retail in Madison / Daughter,
Valerie is a graduate of Edgewood College’s elementary education program and
is a first grade schoolteacher in Phoenix (Cartwright District) and lives in
Peoria, AZ / Daughter, Lindsay is a graduate of UW-Madison in Art History
and Women’s studies and is currently working in management for Apple
Computers in La Jolla, CA but has plans to move to the
valley in the next year to be
with us.
Hobbies/Interests: I am an
intense electronic guru. I build and program computers and have a cutting
edge interest in all audio and video electronics. Example: I currently have
a front projection 110” HDTV (720p/1080i) setup that I designed, wired and
installed myself. I built and networked all of the computers at both of my
office locations. I have been an amateur programmer since my dental school
days and developed some very effective software for use in my office with MS
Visual Basic 6. The program computes benefits of various insurance
companies and splits the fee for patient and insurance then prints a
“Treatment Agreement” and “Informed Consent” to orthodontic treatment with
the push of a button. The program is in its 8th revision and can
now coordinate two coverages. I developed my own web site in 1999
www.gwbraces.com using MS FrontPage. The majority of that site is
mothballed until I begin clinical practice again. I have used the site
since its inception as an educational tool more than as advertising and
refer to illustrations in it in my case presentation letters. I was an avid
golfer in the past and now enjoy an occasional round with friends. I am
also a fanatic reader and enjoy the Sci-Fi/Fantasy genre the most. My
favorite books are by authors such as Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke and
Gene Wolfe.
Favorite aspect
of dentistry: In
orthodontics no two days are alike. There is a constant feeling of
encountering new and interesting problems.
Reason for
becoming a dentist: I have
always had a knack for fixing things with my hands and an unusual ability to
just look at something and fix it. I was taking pre-med courses when my
then girlfriend (wife since 1974) said she thought I should take the DAT
since I am so good with my hands. I did very well on it and the Dental
School accepted me into the next class contingent on my finishing my current
credits satisfactorily (64 total). The
Dental
School was in the habit of selecting good students rather than experienced
ones and we had 8 sophomore standing students accepted into the Class of ’77
out of 66 total.
Professional
Philosophy: To provide an
outstanding orthodontic result for my young patients with minimal intrusion
on their childhood.
Additional
Comments: I finished a two
year employment with Deerwood Orthodontics, LLC at the end of November
2008. We permanently moved to Scottsdale, Arizona the first week of
December. I am now working with the Legacy Mastermind Alliance to provide
orthodontic services to general dental practices. I can be contacted
initially at
greg.wadleigh@cox.net. Additional contact information can be provided
after this initial communication.
