Once fitted, the bands are set aside and the brackets placed
first. This allows adequate curing time for the bracket adhesive.
The mouth is isolated with cheek retractors and a bite
block. This looks difficult but is actually very comfortable. Many
adults nap briefly during this part of the process.

The teeth are treated with a buffered etching
agent for a
minute or less to make the surface ready for bonding.

The teeth are rinsed and the bracket is placed on a moist
tooth surface (they have to be kept slightly moist by dabbing with a wet cotton
roll).

The cement is a glass ionomer with fluoride
release. It
starts to set in a few minutes at which time the flash is trimmed around each
bracket. This step takes about 15 minutes.
