Irregular teeth are very
commonly encountered and are due to wear that occurs from a poor function.
Orthodontic correction is usually for both correction of malocclusion (improper
bite) and to improve appearance. Both are equally important to the
orthodontist although appearance is usually what is on the patient's mind.
If wear is too extensive, restorative treatment with bonding, veneers or crowns
may be necessary. Occasionally all that is needed is the careful
recontouring of the teeth with a polishing bur in the dental handpiece
(drill). As you can see, a little removal goes a long way toward a better
appearance!
